INSURANCE is a tool to manage the risks associated with brownfields. Two major types of coverages include:

  • Pollution Liability Policies (also known under names such as Environmental Impairment Liability Policies) provide protections against claims for bodily injury and property damage stemming from a pollution condition and legal defense expenses arising from the claims.
  • Cost Cap or Stop Loss Policies help protect against costs that exceed cleanup estimates based on a remediation plan.

Many other policies are available to address specific needs and parties to a brownfield project. For more information, click on Learn More About Insurance. A good place to begin is Environmental Insurance Products Available – 2005 posted under Funded Reports.
